The Four Currents
Ideological currents of thought about recovered knowledge — none are objectively correct.
The Four Currents
Theryn has no good-versus-evil factions. Instead, citizens align with currents of thought about what to do with recovered knowledge.
No current is objectively correct. You may drift between them as you play.
Preservationists
Belief: Knowledge should remain protected.
Preservationists argue that some truths are too dangerous to spread — that the Archive exists to guard as much as to reveal. They favor securing ruins, limiting reckless excavation, and documenting before dismantling.
Ask yourself: What is worth hiding?
Seekers
Belief: Knowledge should be uncovered.
Seekers push outward — into caves, ruins, and unmapped territory. They believe the Discovery Age demands courage over caution, and that every sealed door is an invitation.
Ask yourself: What are you willing to risk to know?
Cartographers
Belief: Knowledge should be mapped and cataloged.
Cartographers turn discovery into shared record. They chart shorelines, mark coordinates, and maintain the live map. A good map leaves blank space — blank space is invitation.
Ask yourself: What will you be the first to chart?
Opportunists
Belief: Knowledge should be monetized.
Opportunists trade information, resources, and access. They are not necessarily villains — commerce moves civilization — but profit can distort truth.
Ask yourself: What is your discovery worth?
